The old Primary School was converted into a community centre shortly before the bushfires in 2010. The complex suffered significant damage during the fires, which devastated the town. Sheds, a toilet block and the garden on the site were all destroyed. It was only the efforts of neighbours – who put out spot fires – that prevented the entire building from burning down. Due to the upgrade the community centre was forced to come into line with the current environmental legislation, as a result the community centre has engaged Diston Wastewater Technology to install a sand filter and absorption trenches.
